Extreme disaster restoration

In a few specific claims, the claimant or his agent has raised questions about our valuation process as it related to the manufacture, installation, and finishing of certain historic components. Where we have endeavored to be fair in the replacement of “like kind and quality,” we have met new resistance demanding replacement utilizing historic “means and methods” to reproduce or restore existing materials.

Property Claims Involving Historic Buildings

Recently we have been consulting on several property insurance claims involving historic buildings. In these instances the policy holders made the claim that the buildings needed to be repaired to meet "historic standards." I take that as a reference to the Department of the Interior's standards and guidelines for preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration of historic structures. I am interested in learning how different carriers address this topic in their underwriting standards?
